Spain’s oldest person Maria Branyas, survives coronavirus at 113

Spain

Maria Branyas, believed to be the oldest person in Spain, has survived the Coronavirus disease at the old age of 113.

The retirement home in Spain where she has been staying released the statement, confirming she has recovered from the virus even though several other residents in the same retirement home died from the disease.

The news of her recovery means Branyas has lived through the flu pandemic of 1918-19, the 1936-39 Spanish Civil War and 2020’s Coronavirus pandemic.

Maria Branyas, a mother of three who was born in the US, became infected in April at the Santa Maria del Tura care home in the eastern city of Olot, Spain.

She has lived in Olot for the past 20 years, and fought Coronavirus off in isolation in her room.

“She survived the disease and is doing fine,” a spokeswoman for the residence told AFP, adding Branyas had only displayed mild symptoms.

“She feels good now, she took a test last week and the result was negative,” the spokeswoman said

“Now that she is well, she is wonderful, she wants to speak, to explain, to make her reflections, it is her again,” her daughter tweeted.
When asked the secret to her long life, Branyas said; ‘I’m just lucky to enjoy good health”.

Spain officially has 228,000 cases with 26,920 deaths.
