Ivory Coast knocks out defending champions Senegal on penalties to reach quarterfinals

 Host nation, Ivory Coast have knocked out the defending champions Senegal to reach the quarterfinals of the African Cup of Nations. The round of 16 tie on Monday, January 30,  finished in a 1 – 1 draw but it was Ivory Coast who were victorious in the penalty shootout. Ivory Coast made it to the round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).  They will face Cape Verde in the quarterfinals.

FIFA launch investigation into Egypt’s World Cup play-off defeat by Senegal after the visitors filed a complaint claiming the players were racially abused and lasers were shone in their faces

FIFA are investigating the World Cup qualifier between Senegal and Egypt which took place on Tuesday, March 29.  The game ended in a penalty shootout marred by Mohamed Salah and his teammates being targeted by lasers. Senegal won 3-1 on penalties to book their place in Qatar. But a bitter fallout has ensued, with Egypt making accusations about their treatment in Dakar.    During the shootout, Egypt players and their goalkeeper had green lasers shone at them to distract them.

Egypt beat host nation Cameroon on penalties to set up AFCON 2021 final clash with Senegal

Senegal president’s brother tests positive for Coronavirus

The brother of Senegalese president, Macky Sall has announced that he has tested positive for Coronavirus.   Aliou Sarr, who is the mayor of Guédiawaye revealed in a statement that he tested positive for the disease on Tuesday, and is being treated at the Dalal Diamm hospital in Dakar.    The statement read: “Dear compatriots, Dear fellow mayors, Dear colleagues of the COVID follow-up committee, friends and relatives, when I send you this message I am in Dalal Diam hospital
