Cross River state govt denies claims of a lawmaker dying from COVID-19 in the state

The Cross River state government has debunked rumors surrounding the death of a member of the state House of Assembly, Godwin Akwaji.   There were reports that Akwaji died from COVID-19 related issues in an Isolation center.   However, at a press conference held in Calabar, the state capital on Tuesday June 23, the state Commissioner for Health, Betta Edu, said the late Akwaji was not COVID-19 positive as many suspected him to be. Cross River lawmaker dies at isolation centre after showing COVID-19 symptoms

Godwin Akwaji, the lawmaker representing Obudu constituency at the Cross River state house of assembly has died at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) isolation centre after showng symptoms of Coronavirus.    Akwaji who died around 12:30 pm on Thursday June 18, was diabetic and also exhibited fatigue, fever, cough and breathlessness. Imo state House of Assembly shut down as lawmaker tests positive for Coronavirus

Commissioner and lawmaker test positive for Coronavirus in Gombe

A Gombe Commissioner and a member of the state state House of Assembly have tested positive for Coronavirus.   Gombe State Task Force committee chairman on COVID-19, Professor Idris Muhammad made the announcement during the daily press briefing of the committee. He told journalists that out of the 3,668 people tested for the virus in the state, 410 turned out positive.    Four commissioners, five members of state House of Assembly and a Special Adviser to the governor had earlier tested positive for Coronavirus.

Zamfara lawmaker, Tukur Jekada dies at 60

Tukur Jekada, the lawmaker representing Bakura Constituency at the Zamfara House of Assembly has died at the age of 60.    The lawmaker who was the Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, died on Sunday after a brief illness.   Jekada has been buried in his hometown, Birnin Tudu in Bakura Local Government.
