The POLICE, on Wednesday, arraigned a bus conductor, Quadri Mustapha, before the Lagos State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ikeja for allegedly punching a police constable, Olumide Sonoiki, in the mouth.
It was gathered that Mustapha punched the constable, who challenged him for causing obstruction on the road.
According to the police prosecutor, Ishola Samuel, Mustapha committed the offence around 4pm on July 17, 2019, at the Oshodi bus stop.
“Mr Olumide Sonoiki, a constable, was on lawful duty when Mustapha, who allegedly was obstructing traffic by dropping off passengers on the highway, punched and injured Sonoiki when the constable challenged and ordered him to drive his vehicle off,” Samuel stated.
He added that the offence contravened sections 168 and 174 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The 25-year-old Mustapha was arraigned on two counts of breach of the peace and assault.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The presiding magistrate, F. O. Hughes, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till September 9 for mention.
