Supreme Court affirms Sanwo-Olu’s election as Lagos state governor

The Supreme court today January 12 affirmed the election of Babajide Sanwo-Olu as governor of Lagos state. In March 2023, INEC declared Sanwo-Olu as the winner of the Lagos state governorship election. His election was however challenged by LP’s Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour also known as GRV, who scored 312,329 votes. and PDP’s Abdulazeez Adediran popular as Jandor who came a distant third with 62,449 votes. Britain and US ‘to carry out airstrikes against Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen tonight’

Nigerian athlete, Tobi Amusan to know fate on January 19

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has set January 19 as the date for hearing the appeal filed by the Athletics Integrity Unit and the World Anti-Doping Agency challenging the ruling of the Disciplinary Tribunal in World Athletics against World-record hurdler, Tobi Amusan.      The AIU had reported Amusan to CAS on September 15, 2023, after a ruling of its Disciplinary Tribunal found out that she had not violated antidoping rules that call for a suspension for missing tests.

Truck crushes two students of Akwa Ibom Polytechnic to death

Two students of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, have been crushed to death by a truck.   The incident happened on Monday, January 9,  few metres away from the school’s premises, near Ikot Inyang village junction, along Aba Road in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.   The truck driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the female students, killing them on the spot.   The deceased, Abasifreke Okon, and Irene Edwin from Ikot Abasi and Ibesikpo
