On Wednesday 15th March, 2017. Lagos Band CDs 2016 took to the streets of Lagos to show their dissatisfaction with the lackadaisical (lacking enthusiasm and determination) and unruly attitude of some Lagos drivers, who ignore traffic rules endangering the lives of other motorists and pedestrians (a person walking rather than travelling in a vehicle).
One of the Corp members interviewed said “I see some people drive recklessly and I wonder if they have spare lives. Almost every now and then we see accidents been reported, cases of hit and run on social media platforms and everyone just move on like it is nothing”.
The Secretary of the NYSC Lagos Band who will like to remain anonymous said “The NYSC Lagos Band CDs 2016 decided not to fold hands but stand up for change and act on this issue that has taken lives by sensitizing and creating awareness to the careless attitude of some drivers.”
This music oriented Corp members started the awareness from Ikeja Local government, proceeded to Ikeja under bridge, towards LASUTH, passed through Old secretariat at Oba Akinjobi Way and finally settled at PWD Bus Stop along Agege Motor Road.
They played their drums and danced in their ceremonial attire as they sensitized the public to obey traffic rules and be mindful of road signs either as motorist or pedestrians by sharing handbill and mounting road signs.
On settling at PWD Bus Stop along Agege Motor Road, the Corp members mounted road signals and made zebra crossing that will enable pedestrians get to other end of the road safely.
This thoughtful action carried out by Corp member didn’t go down well with some Lagosians as they screamed and yelled at them because of the obstruction of flow of traffic, but all thanks to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ministry of Transportation Lagos State (MOT), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority for their presence and intervention.
