Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have shot dead two suspected armed robbers in the Ijebu Ode area of the state.
The police said the incident followed an intelligence report received by the command that a robbery gang from Onitsha was in Ijebu Ode to terrorise the residents.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said as soon as the information was received, the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, directed the officer in charge of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Uba Adam, to go after the hoodlums.
He stated that policemen went after the suspects, adding that when the hoodlums sighted the cops, they engaged them in a gun battle for about 30 minutes.
Oyeyemi said, “At the end of the encounter, two of the robbers were shot dead, while two gang members escaped with bullet injuries.
“Items recovered from them are one AK-47 rifle, two pump action guns, 57 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, 32 rounds of live cartridges and an unregistered Toyota Previa.”
The PPRO said Iliyasu expressed satisfaction at the performance of his men and ordered that a manhunt be launched for the fleeing members of the gang.
