Ten persons were killed, while five others were injured in an auto crash on Thursday.
The accident, which occurred at Ibara village along the Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway, involved an 18-seater Mazda commercial bus with number plate, TRE 556 XA, and a truck laden with granite marked, LND 564 XP.
The accident occurred around 10am and was reportedly caused by speeding on the part of the truck driver, who rammed the articulated vehicle into the bus from behind.
The bus was said to be travelling to Ago Iwoye from Sango Ota.
Those who died in the accident, according to the Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Clement Oladele, were four males and six females.
He said five passengers survived the auto crash.
The Public Relations Officer for the state Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, however, said those who died were nine – three males, five females and a baby.
He said a nursing mother and her two-month-old baby girl were among those who died.
Akinbiyi said one of the passengers in the bus had begged the driver to park for her to urinate. He said she was urinating by the roadside when the driver of the truck rammed into the bus, crushing and emptying its content on it.
He said, “The driver of the truck lost control due to speeding, because it was raining and rammed into the stationary bus from behind and dragged it for some metres and later fell on it.”
Akinbiyi said the driver of the truck was still at large.
He said three persons seeking admmission to the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, were also involved in the accident.
